Maryland Solar Farm 1

Project Overview:

On June 4th, 2012, we broke ground for the first major solar energy project in Washington County.  The 160-Acre project, which now provides 20-megawatts of green energy, reached completion in December 2012.  We were fortunate to participate in this unique partnership between the State of Maryland and private enterprise.  The project Owner, First Solar Inc. (Tempe, AZ), currently ranks 20th on the 2013 ENR Top 400 Contractors list.  Hetzer worked directly under Belectric Inc. (Newark, CA), a major installer of solar systems world-wide.  Our contract for civil sitework services included clearing, 3.5-miles of super silt fence, rock drilling and blasting, grading, storm drain, elevated water tank demolition, 4-miles of access roads, and 11-miles of underground trenching services.  Our ability to efficiently and economically drill, shoot, and excavate an extremely rocky site was critical to achieving the aggressive project schedule.
